Publishing is the moment the site leaves Sitejet Builder and starts opening on your domain. It is worth knowing, beforehand, what happens to the files that were already there.
What happens when you publish
| 1 |
cPanel copies the whole site — pages, images, fonts and scripts — into the domain's folder in your account. From then on, the site is served from our server.
| 2 |
While publishing, cPanel shows the progress. At the end it says "Published successfully."
| 3 |
The files only show up in the File Manager after the first publish.
If the domain's folder already has files
The first time you publish to a folder that has files, cPanel warns Directory Not Empty: publishing will remove the website files that are there.
| 1 |
Choose Create a restore point. cPanel keeps a compressed copy of those files in your account, outside the site's folder, before removing them.
| 2 |
This needs free space in the account. If there is not enough, cPanel tells you how many MB it needs and how many you have: delete what you no longer use or move to a bigger plan.
Without a restore point there is no way back: cPanel itself warns that without one it cannot recover your current site's files. Our daily backups may help, but do not rely on them alone — create the restore point.
Publishing again
Every new publish replaces the contents of the domain's folder with what is in the builder. So:
| 1 |
Do not keep other files in that folder (a shop, a WordPress install, a service's verification files). A new publish may delete them.
| 3 |
Changes made in the builder only reach the domain when you click Publish again.
Going back to the old site
If you created the restore point, the site has a Restore Directory option under Domains › Sitejet Builder. It removes the builder site from that domain and puts back the files that were there before.
Your work in the builder is not lost: cPanel notes that Sitejet Website Builder keeps your site. You can publish it again later.
If publishing fails
If you see "Something went wrong when publishing your Sitejet website", try again in a few minutes. If it fails again, open a support ticket with the domain name and the time you tried.
If the published site opens incomplete (some images missing, for example), publish again: cPanel retries each file several times, but a network hiccup can leave one behind.
To see where copies of the site are kept, read backups and your Sitejet site.
