Relay, broadcast recording and studio camera: what each streaming panel does

VPS & Servers·· 7 views· 4 min read

The short answer: these are three advanced features, and each panel has its own. A relay makes your station rebroadcast another source (a show from another station, a church service, an event): SonicPanel has relay redirection and VoxStream has relay scheduling. Recording keeps what went on air: SonicPanel records live DJs automatically; VoxStream records the broadcast, manually or on a schedule. The studio camera shows the studio on video to your listeners and belongs to VoxStream (“Câmera no Estúdio”). Not every feature is on every plan: check with us before you rely on one.

What each panel does

Feature SonicPanel VoxStream
Relay (rebroadcasting another source) Relay redirection. Relay scheduling: the rebroadcast starts and stops at set times.
Recording what goes on air Automatic recording of the live DJ. Broadcast recording, manual or scheduled.
Video from the studio Not on this panel’s feature list. Studio camera (“Câmera no Estúdio”).
Broadcasting from the browser Microphone input in the browser, depending on the panel version. WebDJ: go live from the browser, with nothing to install.
Knowing what was played Live and advanced statistics (listeners, countries, time). Report of songs played, in Excel or PDF.
Live on YouTube and Facebook YouTube or Facebook broadcast, on the Ultra plan only. Live Stream to social networks, on the Ultra plan only.

Using each one without surprises

1 Make sure your plan and your panel have the feature. The panel is chosen when you order; if you need a feature only the other one has, read SonicPanel or VoxStream and talk to us.
2 Relay: ask the other station for its stream address (its listen link) and for permission to rebroadcast it. In the panel, paste that address into the relay section. On VoxStream, also set the start and end times.
3 Recording: on SonicPanel, switch on live DJ recording and every live show is kept; see DJ accounts on SonicPanel. On VoxStream, press record or schedule the show to record.
4 Download the recordings you want to keep and delete the ones you no longer need. Recordings stay on the server and count towards the plan’s AutoDJ space (20, 50 or 150 GB, for Pro, Plus or Ultra).
5 Studio camera (VoxStream): connect a camera to the studio computer, open the “Câmera no Estúdio” option in the panel and allow the browser to use the camera. Test the video on another device before you announce it.
6 Test everything outside peak hours: a badly set relay or a frozen camera can leave your station silent or showing a black screen.
Rebroadcasting without permission is broadcasting someone else’s content. Before a relay, get written permission from whoever produces the broadcast. When you record a show with guests, tell them they are being recorded. And if the relay source drops, your station goes silent until it comes back or the AutoDJ takes over: check in the panel what happens in that case.
Keep a copy of important recordings off the server. An interview or a special show is worth more than the space it takes: download it and keep it somewhere else, as in making and keeping your own backup.
