A small company’s website is usually a brochure site: a few pages, a contact form and mailboxes on the company domain. That fits a shared plan, often one of the first steps. What tends to decide the plan is not the site, it is the e-mail: how many people, how many mailboxes and how much they send.
The four questions, in order

|
A shortcut: what to pick for which company
| Situation | Where to start |
| One or two people, a site of a few pages | One of the first steps. See Pro, Plus, Ultra or Business: choosing without guesswork. |
| A team with several mailboxes and e-mail used every day | A plan with more room for disk and sending, or a professional e-mail plan on its own. |
| A company with more than one brand or domain | A plan that counts sites. See several websites on one plan. |
| A site with lots of photos or downloadable documents | More disk, and attention to how files are handled. |
What the plan does not do for you
The plan looks after the server and the system’s security; it does not write or update your site. A company site left alone for years, with WordPress and plugins out of date, is the favourite target of automatic attacks. Set aside a moment each quarter to update, and check that backups exist and that you know how to restore them. See making and keeping your own backup.
| The e-mail address should not belong to a personal account. Customer messages in one person’s free mailbox get lost when that person leaves. Mailboxes on the company domain stay with the company. |
| Is the site already somewhere else? The move is done without taking it offline. See moving your site to us. |
