Webmail or an e-mail app: which one to read your mail with

Short answer: webmail is best for occasional access, for a computer that is not yours, or for when nothing is set up yet, because there is nothing to install. An app (Outlook, Thunderbird, the one on your phone) is best for daily use, for several accounts together and for reading offline. And you do not have to choose: over IMAP both show the same mailbox, always in step.

Webmail opens in the browser, at https://webmail.asuaempresa.ao, and it is Roundcube on every account. Apps connect to the server mail.asuaempresa.ao over IMAP (port 993, SSL) and send over SMTP (port 465, SSL), with the full address as the username.

Side by side

Webmail E-mail app
Installing Nothing. A browser is enough. Set up once on each device.
Works on any computer Yes. Only where it is set up.
Reading without an Internet connection No. Yes, whatever has already synchronised.
Alerts for new mail Generally only with the page open. Yes, even with the app closed, especially on the phone.
Several accounts together One at a time. All in the same inbox.
On someone else’s computer The best choice, as long as you sign out. Avoid: it leaves your account and password saved.

How to decide

1 Do you read mail every day, on the same device? App. Start-up is slower but the routine is more comfortable.
2 Do you have more than one account (the company one and another)? App, to see them together.
3 Are you on a borrowed computer, in an internet café, or travelling? Webmail. Sign out when you finish.
4 Need to see one message quickly and do not want to set anything up? Webmail. In, look, out.

To set up the app, follow the guide for your device: Thunderbird, Android or iPhone and iPad. For webmail, how to access your webmail.

What is the same in both

The filters you create in Roundcube are server rules, so they keep applying when you read your mail in an app: filters in Roundcube. The messages, the folders and the space are the same, because they live on the server. The password is the mailbox one, not the cPanel one or the Meu Interweb one. If you forget it, the way back is recovering an e-mail account password.

IMAP, not POP. With POP the app usually downloads the messages and removes them from the server, and webmail stops showing them. To use webmail and an app at the same time, choose IMAP: POP or IMAP.
The mailbox has the same space whether you read it in webmail or in an app, because the messages live on the server. If it filled up, deleting in an IMAP app deletes everywhere: mailbox full. And if webmail gives an error, start with the most common webmail errors.
